Former gang member challenges kids to make positive life choices

LAWTON, Okla._They're getting an early start on gang prevention at Eisenhower Elementary School.

Jeff Elbert, former Crips gang member turned youth minister, shared his story with students in kindergarten through second grade at Eisenhower Elementary Tuesday. Elbert says it's important that kids make positive life choices now, and surround themselves with good people.

"The earlier the better. However, nobody is a lost cause. At any level, you can impact someone. And you may not be able to get 10 kids at once, but if you get one out of 10 then you've done something," said Elbert.

Elbert challenged the kids to set a new trend of being cool by doing the right thing and being themselves.
