Altus police arrest suspected drunk driver after chase

ALTUS, Okla._A suspected drunk driver is facing a list of charges following a police chase in Altus Thursday evening.

Police say 36-year-old Jarred Gagnard sped away from an officer who tried to pull him over for speeding in the 200 block of East Broadway shortly after 7:00 p.m. A chase ensued with speeds reaching up to 70 mph in a 35 mph zone. Police say Gagnard eventually stopped in a hotel parking lot on the 1500 block of East Broadway where he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. Police say Gagnard had a strong odor of alcohol, slurred speech and bloodshot eyes.

He was booked into the Jackson County Jail on several complaints including driving under the influence and attempting to elude police.
