NWS: Elmer tornado rated at EF-2

NORMAN, Okla._Preliminary survey results are in for one of Southwest Oklahoma's biggest tornadoes from Saturday's severe weather.Officials with the National Weather Service have given the large edge tornado that hit Elmer an EF-2 rating. Details on the tornado's path width and length are still being evaluated, however, officials believe the funnel stayed on the ground for at least 30 miles.

Groups of surveyors documented the damage path early this morning and will be releasing a full report on this tornado as well as others in the Southwest Oklahoma area within the next few days.

According to the Storm Prediction Center, qualifications for an EF-2 rating require wind gusts between 111-135 mph and considerable damage including roofs torn off well-constructed houses; foundations of frame homes shifted; mobile homes completely destroyed; large trees snapped or uprooted; light-object missiles generated; and cars lifted off ground.
