Burkburnett approves smoking ban

BURKBURNETT, Texas_The city of Burkburnett will soon be smoke-free.

City officials passed a ban on smoking in public places Monday night, making the town the second in Wichita County to go smoke-free. The new legislation is very similar to the smoking ban in Wichita Falls, but Burkburnett's ban extends to city sidewalks.

Public health officials hope the new measure will help cut down on second hand smoke and reduce the risks of heart disease, stroke and infant mortality in the county. The ban officially goes into effect on Friday.
