Cameron alumni talks politics

LAWTON, Okla._A Cameron University graduate, who's now a political polling expert and strategist for the Republican Party, returned to the university Wednesday night.

Ed Goeas spoke to a crowd at the CETES center about the science and technology of political polling, and how those in politics can use them to see if their messages are getting through. Goeas spoke fondly about his time at Cameron in the 1970s and said that experience helped shape his professional career.

"It was the community and it was the university and it was the combination of the two was a great learning experience; that became useful in terms of moving forward and working in politics,” Goeas said.

Goeas will be attending the Southern Republican Leadership Conference Thursday in Oklahoma City.

Presidential candidate Governor Scott Walker of Wisconsin will be there, and Goeas said he will be a consultant during his campaign.

An Oklahoma Forestry Services task force is joining the fight against a wildfire in Kiowa County. It's burning about 17 miles southwest of Quartz Mountain State Park. They're calling it the "Flat Top" fire. The last update shows the fire has consumed about 70 acres. The O.F.S. says the biggest problem is that fire is burning in rough terrain. Local fire departments, including Blair and Martha are among those fighting it.
