Lawton trash-off postponed

LAWTON, Okla._The 2015 Lawton-Fort Sill Trash-Off has been postponed due to forecasted storms.

The City of Lawton and the Lawton Enhancement Trust Authority originally scheduled the trash-off for Saturday, May 23, but it's been pushed back until late August or early September. An exact date has not been set yet.

The trash-off is a great time for residents to bring unwanted debris and recyclable items to the McMahon Auditorium parking lot.

You can get rid of the following items at the trash-off: used oil filters (kitchen and motor), auto batteries, tires (no larger than truck tires), antifreeze, scrap metal, vacuum cleaners, fluorescent bulbs, appliances, fire extinguishers, rechargeable batteries, latex paint, alkaline batteries, fire alarms, mixed chemicals, ag and off-road tires and trash.

They will not, however, accept the following: lab waste, ammunition, explosives, compressed gas cylinders, commercial waste, tractor tires or tires mounted on rims.

There will be a separate drop-off locations for the following: pharmaceuticals, pesticides, herbicides, oil-based paint, household lawn care products, pool chemicals, craft and hobby supplies and old mixed fuels.

Goodwill will be on site to collect all usable household and other items.
