WICHITA FALLS, Texas_The Wichita River has risen at least a foot and a half from Thursday to 18.77 feet.

Wichita County and Wichita Falls city officials held a briefing to discuss the rapidly changing flood situation. They are now thinking it's going to be worse than originally anticipated. Burkburnett, Iowa Park and Archer City are also facing the potential of flood damage.

Thursday, many residents in Wichita Falls were forced to find refuge in shelters after being evacuated from their homes earlier in the day. One of the shelters they went to was one set up by the Red Cross at Hirschi High School.

"Can you imagine being told you have to get out of your house? What are you going to take? What are you going to leave behind? What does it look like when I get back," asked Katrina Farmed, Red Cross executive director.

Only the lower portion of Tanglewood is expected to be affected by flood waters at this time. It has been evacuated and the power was shut off to prevent any fires. The City of Wichita Falls has also released a map of the 2007 flood, indicating the areas that are expected to be affected during the current event.
