LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton Public Schools employee has been selected as the state's Outstanding Director of the Year.
Lynn Fitz has worked for Lawton Public Schools since 1977 and has served as the executive director for special services for 17 years. Fitz's coworkers say she goes the extra mile year after year to better the lives of her students. She says her mission is to give kids a chance that they may not have otherwise, and there's nothing more rewarding than seeing them succeed.
"They're the best kids in the whole world. It absolutely fills your heart and I can't understand why not everybody wants to do special education. It's tough, but it's the most rewarding thing in the whole wide world," said Fitz.
Fitz will accept the award on June 11 at the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma Schools Association Summer Conference in Norman.
