26th Annual Tour de Meers

MEERS, Okla_ Saturday's weather didn't stop the more than 200 cyclist from enjoying the scenic routes through the Wichita Mountain's Wildlife Refuge.

It was all for the 26th Annual Tour de Meers. The Meers Volunteer Fire Department puts on the ride and it's their biggest fundraiser of the year.

The race numbers were a little low this year due to the weather, but there was still 400 pre-registered riders that brought in money for the department.

Assistant Fire Chief, Bill Cunningham, says though weather cut down on the riders, it didn't cut down on the fun.

"They are all smiles! No one is complaining. We had no lightning, no thunder, no storms, no floods, but we had fog. So I guess this is the Tour De Fog this year," Cunningham said.

The funds from Saturday's event will go towards repairing the stations bay doors that were damaged in last week's tornado. The rest will go towards purchasing a new brush truck.
