LAWTON, Okla._The American Red Cross set up a shelter in the Lawton High School Cafeteria Thursday night.

It was a safe place for more than 12 people who were evacuated from their homes in Central Lawton. The agency said Friday that they are always prepared for disasters like this and can be ready to provide aid within one hour.

"Shelter trailer it always packed with all the exact equipment that's needed and we're able to execute that and set up in a moment's notice," said Daniel Farrell, Volunteer Services Specialist.

Farrell said the shelter will remain open as long as there are flooding victims in need of a dry place to stay.
