Two Altus police officers earn state honors

ALTUS, Okla._Two Altus police officers have recently been granted state awards.

Sergeant Brad Edmonds was named the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Edmonds was cited for his bravery in rescuing two people from a house fire, including one who was disabled, and unable to escape on his own.

Sergeant Don Wood was named Law Enforcement Officer of the Year by the American Legion. Wood was responding to a call in which someone had shot at another man. The suspect fired his gun at Sergeant Wood, but the shot missed. Wood returned fire, and hit the man in the stomach.

Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy released a statement commending the two officers, saying, "Their dedication, loyalty, professionalism, ethical and moral standards are certainly held in high regard and qualities I believe citizens expect and deserve from police officers.”
