WOSC loses NJCAA National Title in heartbreaking fashion

Western Oklahoma State College was 1 out away from winning its second NJCAA Division II Championship over LSU-Eunice, but couldn't close things out.

The Pioneers gave up four runs in top of the ninth inning of game one of the championship series to fall to the Bengals 14-12, then could never get momentum in game two as LSU-Eunice won 16-1 to win the national championship.

In game one, Western was cruising for most of the game and led 10-1 in the fifth inning. But the Bengals fought back over the next three innings and tied the game at 10 in the top of the eighth inning.

It appeared that the Pioneers had regained control in the bottom of the eighth when a 2-run single by Miguel Lorenzo gave WOSC a 12-10 advantage, but the Pioneers couldn't hold the lead in the ninth, and went down in order in the bottom half.

With its pair of losses to Eunice in the championship series, Western finishes the season 53-13.
