Cameron stars headed to China for hoops tour

Two of the most decorated players in the history of Cameron basketball, as well as current head coach Nate Gamet, are about to get the opportunity of a life time.

Gamet and former Aggies Craig Foster and Milton Garner will head to China later this month as part of a tour for former college basketball players hoping to get signed by foreign professional teams.

The tour, organized by former Dallas Christian head coach Charles Williams, will feature a dozen talented players from around the U.S.A. heading overseas to play games against the Chinese Basketball Association, the country's top league. If things go well, Foster and Garner could parlay the trip into a professional contract.

"Coach Gamet called asking me to come play in a trip to China, and I said I was definitely trying to go to that," Foster said. "It's good for players who haven't been signed yet. We go over there and play a seven-game series against their best team so it should be a fun event."

"It's an opportunity for guys who have exhausted their eligibility that are talented enough to go play and get seen by some scouts and some agents and hopefully they can get picked up and continue their careers professionally," Gamet said.

Foster and Garner will have their former head coach with them in China. Gamet was selected to be the lone assistant coach for the 2 week trip.

"Coach Williams is a good friend of mind from when he was the coach at Dallas Christian and we would play them throughout the years while at Cameron," Gamet said. "He contacted me at the end of the year and asked if I had any former players that would be interested in making the trip, and we started talking about it more and he asked if I'd be interested in helping coach the team. It was an opportunity that I couldn't pass up."

Gamet, Garner and Foster will be in China June 24-July 7. The trip begins in Beijing, but will make stops in other parts of the country as well.
