OSBI investigating Oklahoma senator in embezzlement case

TULSA, Okla. (AP) _ The Better Business Bureau at Tulsa, which was once run by a state senator, is conducting an audit while the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation looks at the possible misappropriation of funds.

State Sen. Rick Brinkley led the Tulsa BBB from 1999 to 2011, then was chief operating officer. BBB interim president Carrie Hurt said the board fired Brinkley in April.

Brinkley wrote the BBB a $49,693.94 check from a campaign account in January, the same month OSBI began its investigation. Brinkley's attorney, Mack Martin, told the Oklahoman (http://bit.ly/1AIrUX8 ) the Republican senator from Owasso has not embezzled money and is cooperating with investigators.

Martin said Brinkley intended to write a personal check to the BBB, but wouldn't say what the money was for. Brinkley reimbursed his campaign in April.
