Red Cross holds Giving Day

LAWTON, Okla._In light of last month's tornadoes and flooding that hit the state, including right here in southwest Oklahoma, the American Red Cross held its first ever "Giving Day."

It's a 24-hour national campaign that supports the Red Cross so it can provide comfort to disaster victims. This includes providing meals, shelter, cleanup supplies, counseling and blood. Volunteer specialist Daniel Farrell says the goal is to raise as much money as possible to spread across their aid programs.

"A donation in any amount is welcome. It doesn't matter if its $25 or $1,000. Any donation will help. Disaster relief in Oklahoma will be helped immensely by the giving on this day," said Farrell.

The Red Cross continues to help those in need after the tornadoes and flooding in May. It's already assisted more than 2,000 Oklahomans.

If you would like to make a donation to the American Red Cross Giving Day, you can do so by calling 1-800-red-cross, going online to givingday.redcross.org, or making a $10 donation by texting "redcross" to 90999.
