LAWTON, Okla._Following his release from a local hospital Friday, Richard Basa Jr. was charged with endangering others while eluding a police officer, drug possession with the intent to distribute, pointing a firearm and possession of a firearm after felony conviction.
Basa is accused of leading police and deputies on a chase through Lawton that ended in Cache following a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex on Northwest Hoover Avenue. The chase ended when Basa stopped his car to avoid driving over stop sticks.
Investigators say Basa was armed with a gun and initially complied with officers orders to place the gun on the ground, but seconds later he picked it up and started walking towards law enforcement officers. When a deputy tried to tackle him, he pointed the gun at another deputy and was shot four times.
