Investigation: Dead dog left in dumpster

LAWTON, Okla._Lawton Animal Welfare is asking for your help finding the person who disposed of a dead dog in a dumpster.

The Rottweiler was found dead Wednesday inside a cage in a dumpster behind an apartment complex near Northwest 52nd Street and Ashby Avenue, just south of Rogers Lane. Animal welfare believes the dog overheated and died. It did not have tags or a microchip. The owner could face a fine of $500 and up to six months in jail for violating the city ordinance against objectionable waste, which is enforced by the Lawton Neighborhood Services Division.

If you have any information on the incident, please call Lawton dispatch at 580-581-3271.

Lawton Animal Welfare says if you have a deceased animal, you can take it to the city dump to be disposed of for free.
