Kids fish with veterans

LAWTON, Okla_ Some Lawton youth got the opportunity to spend some quality time with veterans Saturday and do some fishing.

For some of these kids they got to catch their first fish! The event was for the Boys and Kids Club of Lawton and was put on by the Kiwanis.

The group got to spend time out at the pond at the VA Center to do the fishing.

Event organizer, Jarrod McLaughlin, says it's important for these kids to not only get out, but to also spend time with the veterans.

"You hear about the vets, you hear about the veteran's center, but actually coming out here seeing the vets, telling stories, swapping fishing stories. Just interaction, young, old, middle; it's amazing opportunity, an amazing experience," McLaughlin said.

This is the 7th year the Kiwanis have had the fishing derby. All fish caught were released back to the pond.
