Starts as written warning, ends in felony gun arrest

LAWTON, Okla._A Lawton man is in jail and only has himself and his friends to blame for his arrest.

Thursday night, Brenton Edwards was a passenger in a car pulled over for driving with non-working headlights. The police officer told the driver he was only getting a written warning, but when the officer went back to his car, the passengers rolled down the windows and the officer noticed smoke coming out.

The officer had his K-9 unit do an open air sniff, and detected drugs. After searching the vehicle, the officer found meth and a gun. Edwards was arrested and has since been charged with possession of a firearm after a felony conviction.

He is being held on a $200,000 bond.
