Gas prices slip a bit in Oklahoma, signaling leveling off

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Gasoline prices in Oklahoma have dropped slightly in recent days, suggesting that prices may be leveling off after reaching their highest level of the year last week.

The AAA said the average price for a gallon of regular gasoline was $2.585. Last week it was at $2.60.

Last year, prices were 94 cents higher. Last month, they were 13 cents lower.

AAA Oklahoma spokesman Chuck Mai says prices should continue to fall as long as there is no major jump in oil prices.

Among major cities and towns, prices were highest around Stillwater, at $2.616, and lowest at Ardmore and Muskogee, below $2.51.

Six states had average prices below Oklahoma: South Carolina, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Tennessee and Louisiana, in that order.

Highest were California, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada and Washington state.
