Police release details about man who hid in strangers home during chase

LAWTON, Okla._Lawton police have released the name of the Lawton man who hid from them in a stranger's home, and the details of the wild chase he led them on.

Police first found Nathaniel Williams at Southwest 19th Street and N.H. Jones Avenue, slowly driving down the wrong lane of traffic. Police tried to stop Williams, but he kept on rolling forward and took off when the officer left his patrol car.

Williams led the officer on a chase, during which he tossed a gun out the car window. The chase came to a sudden stop on Southwest Tennessee Avenue when Williams left his car and ran. Police started to give chase, but Williams looped around a nearby apartment complex and got back into his car.

The chase then continued to Southwest 15th Street and New York Avenue where Williams jumped out of his car again and dove into a stranger's home. There, police finally cornered Williams, who was dressed in the homeowner's clothes.

Police impounded the car Williams was driving and found a digital scale and two cell phones. They were also able to recover the 9mm pistol Williams threw out the window during the chase.

Williams was arrested for eluding a police officer, reckless driving, possession of a firearm after a felony conviction and breaking and entering. He also received a citation for improper distance from the curb.
