CCMH celebrates 2nd year doctor residency program

LAWTON, Okla._Comanche County Memorial Hospital celebrated the second year of their doctor residency program Thursday evening.

They recognized their current class of 20 residents, who are working in emergency medicine and family medicine, as well as the advancing residents who will be joining the hospital staff. The idea behind the program is to expose the resident doctors to the amount of medical services they can rotate to and learn from, while encouraging them to stay once they begin their own practice.

"It's all about taking care of patients. And I think we got a good group this year just like we did last year. So we're really pleased, CCMH, Dr. James Fitzgerald said.

Dr. Fitzgerald says CCMH is constantly searching for ways to recruit new physicians to the program and the community.

The residents learn for 2-4 years, depending on if they are family practice residents, or ER residents.
