Oklahoma archbishop calls gay marriage ruling `tragic error'

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ The archbishop of the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City says the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling to allow gay marriage is ``a tragic error.''

The Most Reverend Paul Coakley said Friday's ruling ``will have devastating consequences'' for children and marriage by its nature is between one man and one woman. He said children need to be connected to their mothers and fathers and that only marriage can accomplish that.

Coakley said the Catholic church will defend marriage and called for prayers for the nation, families, children and those who disagree with the church.
