Police: Man tries to kidnap teen

LAWTON, Okla._Lawton police are investigating an attempted kidnapping that happened Monday afternoon.

Police say a man—described as Hispanic, approximately 26 years old, 5'8” and 145 pounds—tried to kidnap a 16-year-old girl between the 1700 and 2700 block of Southwest “G” Avenue around 4:00 p.m. Monday.

The girl told police the man pulled up in a white, two-door Chevy pickup and told her to come over to the truck. She continued walking and the man came up from behind her, grabbed her arm and started dragging her back to his truck. She was able to get free and started running and screaming for help.

The suspect grabbed her by the neck and tried dragging her to the truck for a second time. She was able to get away from the man and ran away. At that point, the truck disappeared.

The man showed up again once the girl got to Southwest 25th Street and “G” Avenue. She tried to call for help, but dropped her phone and the suspect picked it up. A passerby stopped to assist and made the suspect give back the phone. The suspect got back into his truck and drove southbound on Southwest 26th Street.

The Lawton Police Department says this is the only information they have available at this time. They have not received any other calls of attempted kidnappings involving someone fitting this description. They will continue to investigate the case.

More than half of the 17 people killed when a tourist boat sank on a Branson lake were members of the same Indiana family, and they likely wouldn't have been on the ill-fated trip but for a ticket mix-up.
