Woman arrested for 2nd degree murder after deadly shooting in Lawton

LAWTON, Okla._ A Lawton Police Department report shows a woman was arrested for second-degree murder following a shooting Tuesday evening.

According to police, officers arrived at a home near Northwest 53rd and Oak Avenue and found Joseph Higgins had been shot in the upper torso. He was taken to Comanche County Memorial Hospital where he died shortly later from his wound. LPD says Higgins' apparent girlfriend, Shainice Owens, told officers that she accidentally shot Higgins after they both grabbed a firearm. She told detectives they had been arguing before it turned physical. Witnesses say she was covered in blood when she was taken into custody.

Detectives arrested Owens on a second-degree murder complaint.
