Soldier naturalized at Independence Day celebration

FORT SILL, Okla._Fort Sill kicked off its Independence Day celebrations with a bang.

The Color Guard presented the flags and the 77th U.S. Army Band played patriotic music. For the first time ever, the post held a naturalization ceremony at their Independence Day event. Private First Class Jorge Morales became a U.S. citizen in honor of American freedom. Morales says this is a day he has looked forward to for the last eight years.

"Like a father, I am so proud to be able to give an example to my kids. I hope they follow me when they grow up," said Pfc. Morales.

Morales is originally from Guatemala and joined the Army 10 months ago. Fort Sill will hold a salute to the union at noon on Saturday.

Fifty cannonballs will be fired to mark every state in the U.S.
