Man arrested after pointing gun at off-duty officer

LAWTON, Okla._A man is facing multiple charges after allegedly pointing an assault rifle at an off-duty Lawton police officer Sunday afternoon.

The off-duty officer said he was eastbound on Lee Boulevard when a truck pulled out in front of him. He said the truck kept slowing down, so he decided to get around them. As the officer moved around the truck, it appeared that the passenger in the back seat handed a rifle to the driver, Jason Torres.

Once the officer was alongside the truck, Torres allegedly pointed the rifle at him. That's when the officer slammed on his brakes and called dispatch.

Torres and his two passengers were stopped at the EZ-GO on Southwest 52nd Street and Lee Boulevard. Police found a loaded, short barrel rifle in the truck.

The two passengers were detained momentarily and later released. One of the passengers told police that Torres suffers from PTSD and other mental problems, and she stated Torres had not been taking his medication.

Torres was taken to Comanche County Detention Center for driving on a suspended license, transporting a loaded firearm and for felonious pointing of a firearm. He also had a warrant out of Jefferson County for not having vehicle insurance or a proper license plate.
