Buffalo Soldier Acres nears completion

FORT SILL, Okla._Another housing complex on Fort Sill is nearing completion.

The homes at Buffalo Soldier Acres are for junior enlisted soldiers and their families. The area consists of 48 four-bedroom homes and 26 three-bedroom homes, which are spread out amongst 20 buildings. Fort Sill separates housing based on rank to prevent any form of possible conflict.

From safe rooms and fire suppression sprinklers to upstairs laundry and power outlets on each wall, officials say the updates come in light of expanding needs and technology. Corvias Military Living worked side by side with Fort Sill to make sure these houses have every amenity most only wish for.

When Specialist Kemeish Moore and her husband, Marcel, first arrived at their home, they were surprised with the space and cleanliness. Kemeish says it was  more than she had ever imagined.

"I was so happy, I was ecstatic. I have to give thanks to Ellen because she helped me out on it. We did research and we saw some beautiful houses. I was hoping to get one of them, and thank God I am lucky to get one," said Spc. Moore.

Fort Sill brought realtors in from the Lawton area to show of the building's craftsmanship, something they hope will become the standard on Fort Sill and off.

Colonel Glenn Waters says they hope to continue building a relationship with those working in the Lawton/Fort Sill housing industry.

"Being here two years now, that's the one thing I keep hearing. Soldiers love the Lawton-Fort Sill community and the relationship they have downtown. We want to maintain that high standard and keep raising it, not going the other way," Col. Waters said.

Marcel, a former Marine, says he is happy with their decision to live on post, and says he couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

"I've heard that some people don't enjoy living on post, I don't know why. They are beautiful communities around and there is a lot to do on base and also in the surrounding community. It's good," said Moore.

The Buffalo Soldier Acres area is expected to be completed by February. After completion, Corvias will have 510 homes within Fort Sill.

The townhome floor plans are similar to the other Corvias homes that have been completed in the past. The only exception is that they are on a smaller scale.
