AAA says Oklahoma pump prices are highest so far this year

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - AAA Oklahoma says gasoline prices in the state have moved higher over the last few days and are now at the highest level so far this year.

AAA says the state average for self-serve regular gas stands at $2.64 per gallon, the highest price average since Nov. 22.

AAA spokesman Chuck Mai says the price spike is contrary to what is happening in other parts of the country. The national average has been moving steadily downward, dropping more than two cents in the past week to $2.75 per gallon.

Gas prices in the central U.S. began to jump last week along areas serviced by the Magellan pipeline. Refinery problems forced some refiners to buy fuel to meet contractual needs, pushing prices higher. The problem was felt from Oklahoma to Minnesota.
