Tip leads police to sex offender who failed to register

LAWTON, Okla._Lawton police arrested a level three sex offender who moved to Lawton from West Virginia without notifying the Oklahoma Department of Corrections or registering.

William Frederick King, 34, was arrested late Tuesday after officers were called to a residence in the 2500 block of Southwest Jefferson Avenue. The caller told police they believed he was living there with small children.

When officers arrived, King told them he moved to Lawton two days ago. Police discovered King had a felony warrant for failure to register as a sex offender, which was issued in 2011.

Police say King hadn't registered in West Virginia either since 2014. He never notified the West Virginia State Police of his intent to move back to Oklahoma. King failed to notify the Oklahoma Department of Corrections or Lawton Police Department about his intention to move to Oklahoma.

King is listed as a level 3 lifetime/aggravated sex offender in the state of Oklahoma. According to court documents, King was convicted of rape in Oregon in 2006.
