'Top ten' earthquake shakes Oklahoma

CRESCENT, Okla._The United States Geological Survey has reported 4.0 and a 4.5 magnitude earthquakes Monday afternoon.

Both of the reported earthquakes occurred approximately three miles northeast of Crescent, which is 38 miles north of Oklahoma City.  The 4.0 magnitude foreshock was reported at 12:49 p.m., and the 4.5 magnitude earthquake was reported at 1:12 p.m.

Foreshocks are earthquakes that occur before the larger, main earthquake.

According to the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the 4.5 magnitude earthquake is one of the top ten strongest earthquakes in Oklahoma. The strongest earthquake was a 5.6 magnitude recorded in Prague, Oklahoma, in November 2011.
