2 boys severely sunburned, day care closes

VINITA, Okla._A daycare in Vinita has agreed to cease operations after a mother reported her two sons received severe sunburns during an outing to a splash pad.

Debra Martin, a spokesperson for the Department of Human Services, said Tuesday the Happiness is a Learning Center day care agreed to close. Martin says DHS and local police are investigating the incident.

Shaunna Broadway told reporters that a day care worker let her 5- and 7-year-old sons play outside Friday, July 24, without shirts or sunscreen. Broadway took photos of her sons, which show the sunburns and blisters that cover their shoulders and back.

The boys were taken to a hospital in Tulsa before they were flown to the Shriner's Hospital in Galveston.

A GoFundMe account has been set up to help the family.
