Resident cools off in busted water main

LAWTON, Okla._ A water main break on Lawton’s west side early this evening looked more like a geyser.

The break happened Northwest 75th and Woodland Drive. Neighbors said they heard the ground gurgling, and within a few minutes, the water was shooting at least 30 feet into the air, spraying water and gravel on to surrounding properties.

Richard Blanton said this is the second break to happen in his yard in last couple months, so this time he made the most of it.

"Once all the mud had gotten out of it, I got in my swim trunks and went out there and got into it. Just like a little kid. Man I tell you, I loved it," Blanton said.

City officials said the broken pipe would be banded, and water was expected to be restored to residents within a couple hours.
