Central Fire Station receives historical recognition

LAWTON, Okla._Central Fire Station was selected to be placed on the Oklahoma Registry of Historic Places, Thursday.

The registry is made up of historical landmarks, buildings and, or objects that show a significance to the past. Lawton Fire Chief Dwayne Burk accepted the honor on behalf of the city. Assistant Fire Chief Eric Troutman says they have worked hard to keep the station as close to its original state as possible.

"Not making any major modifications to it or whatever. Pretty much how you see it now is how it was when it was built in 1930,” Troutman said.

The Central Fire Station firefighters hope to eventually be selected for the National Registry of Historical Places, as well.
