Convicted felon charged after running from police

LAWTON, Okla._Police say a convicted felon is back behind bars after a chase Monday evening.

Police say an officer pulled up behind Montre Patterson's car near Northwest 24th Street and Pollard Avenue after he smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle. Patterson gave the officer his identification, but refused to comply when asked to sit on the curb multiple times. Police say the officer pulled his gun on Patterson after the man started toward the driver's door of his car.

Patterson then took off running toward the Apple Run Apartments. After a short chase, the officer was able to handcuff Patterson with the help of the apartment's security guard.

A pat down uncovered that Patterson was in possession of a loaded Taurus .357 Magnum. The officer asked Patterson if he was a convicted felon or had a carry permit. Patterson told the officer he wanted to speak to his lawyer.

He was charged with possession of a firearm after felony conviction and resisting arrest. Patterson has had previous convictions for carrying a firearm after a felony conviction. His bond was set at $50,000.
