Rush Springs prepares for annual Watermelon Festival

RUSH SPRINGS, Okla._The Rush Springs Watermelon Festival is this Saturday and it's packed with fun for the whole family.

The Watermelon Festival started in Rush Springs in 1940 and has been held continuously since 1948. The festival includes watermelons of all sizes and varieties, a seed spitting contest and free watermelon.

Opening ceremonies start at 9:00 a.m. and the watermelon queen's coronation is at 7:00 p.m.

9:00 a.m.- Opening ceremonies and Ginger Boles
9:45 a.m.-Tiny Tots contest
Noon- Watermelon seed spitting contest
1:00 p.m.- Morgan White
1:30 p.m.- Blue grass group
2:00 p.m.- Bryan Rolin
3:15 p.m.- Announce car and tractor winners
3:30 p.m.- John Bomboy and The Underscores
5:00 p.m.- Prize watermelon auction
5:30 p.m.- 77th Army Band
7:00 p.m.- Tiny Tots and water queen coronation

There is also a 5K run at 7:30 a.m. to benefit the Rush Springs track program and a car and tractor show at 9:00 a.m. Visitors can vote on melon questions to ask the queen and visit the prize melon exhibit all day.
