Will Shields' Deep Connection with LHS, Lawton

Lawton product Will Shields received his unofficial induction into the football hall of fame last night when he received his gold jacket. In the midst of his moment in the spotlight, will took time to pay tribute to his old high school, by throwing the L's up for Lawton High.

"Growing up in Lawton being a Wolverine. You know, all that good stuff. So, of course you have to throw that L up so people remember where you from. It's a perfect moment. I mean that's one thing about it. You've always, that mantra will resonate in your mind all the time. So you just keep pushing it forward." – Will Shields

That pride extends beyond LHS, but the entire city of Lawton. A community that still holds a piece of his heart.

"I'm always going to be a Lawtonian for the rest of my life. And that's what you love about the people there. They embrace you and they've done a great job. You know, with all the coaches that are still there around the area and the teachers there still there in the area, you have love and respect for each one of them. You wish they could have made the trip. And one day I hope to be there so we can celebrate it together."

Shields, who he himself played with played with several pro athletes and an Olympian, is the first to reach hall of fame status. It's an honor he recognizes and is proud to carry.

"I think it's good. It just comes out to the work you put in it. You know you started there and it just one of those things that you can say, you know, you're the first of. You try to do the first of a lot of different things and this is one thing you can be happy about."

The only thing standing between Will and the hall of fame now is tomorrow night's induction ceremony right here at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.
