US senator: Some immigrants should be allowed to stay

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - A Republican U.S. senator for Oklahoma says some immigrants who finish their education in the country should be allowed to stay and work.

U.S. Sen. James Lankford says he doesn't expect to see any progress on immigration policy in the next 18 months. But he says he's hopeful the next president, whether Republican or Democrat, will work with Congress in moving the issue forward.

The Journal Record (http://bit.ly/1INSApK ) reports that Lankford, speaking to the Downtown Club of Oklahoma City, says he anticipates over the next few months to see a highway transportation funding bill pass, along with a rewrite of an education policy, the federal budget and improvements to the nation's cybersecurity.
