"Our knowledge level of just how we operate as far as off-the-field things, the on-the-field things, our mental game and our schemes, we're just so much farther along than we were a year ago," Reed said. "So the anticipation for the season has been significant for a really long time."
"We're real confident. Coach Reed has been talking about big expectations, but the day-to-day work is what's going to determine our success," added senior Jayden Benway.
Altus lost a big weapon in T.J. McGill to graduation. Filling his spot will be a familiar face, Taven Birdow, who is back with the Bulldogs after spending his junior season at IMG Academy in Bradenton, FL.
"Taven came in and really grasped everything we're doing. He's a really smart kid both in the classroom and on the field, no hiccups on what we're trying to get done," Reed said. "He's just really meshed well with kids he's played with his whole life really."
Altus will open the season September 4th at Vernon, TX.
