Grass fire consumes 70 acres

COMANCHE COUNTY, Okla._The Geronimo Fire Department spent part of Tuesday afternoon putting out a grass fire.

It started about 4 p.m. Tuesday on 82nd Street near Bishop Road. About 60 to 70 acres were burned before the fire department was able to get it under control.

Ralph Dickson, a neighboring farmer said his land wasn't affected much, and he's grateful the fire department was able to respond quickly.

"It's a great thing these guys volunteer to do this stuff for us. This really does help and we can depend on them," Dickson said.

No word on the cause of the fire. Dickson said it started near the road. Geronimo Fire Department was able to get it completely doused in about 30 minutes.
