US Marshals arrest man wanted for Altus kidnapping

CONCORD, N.H._U.S. Marshals and officers from the Concord Police Department arrested a man who was wanted for a kidnapping and assault with a dangerous weapon out of Altus.

Ashton Garland, 24, was arrested early Friday afternoon in Concord, New Hampshire. He was wanted for reportedly kidnapping his girlfriend and then trying to run her and her 2-year-old over with a car. She was taken to Jackson County Memorial Hospital for her injuries, and the child was not hurt.

U.S. Marshals say information developed rapidly Friday and indicated Garland was living in an apartment on Beacon Street in Concord. Marshals and local police went to the apartment and forced their way in using a battering ram after they heard him attempting to flee. Garland was found hiding in the attic where he was arrested without further incident.

Garland is currently being held at the Merrimack County Jail pending his initial court appearance and eventual return to Jackson County.
