LAWTON, Okla._A mother and father were arrested by Lawton police after they were caught with drugs and a handgun just feet away from their children.

Police say early Wednesday morning, 33-year-old Monica Thayer called the front desk at the Apache Casino Hotel, saying she was locked out of her room. When hotel security forced open the door for her, they spotted 32-year-old Matthew Thayer passed out on the ground and their two children, an 11-month old and a 2-year-old, on the bed. On top of the dresser was a collection of drugs and a loaded handgun.

The Thayers were in possession of 3.8 grams of marijuana, powdered methamphetamine on a clipboard and 3.8 grams of crystal methamphetamine and unlabeled bottle of Alprazolam. The two were arrested on drug possession and child endangerment charges, and the children were taken into DHS custody.
