CLAREMORE, Okla. (AP) - The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says the body of an 8-year-old drowning victim has been recovered from Lake Oologah in northeastern Oklahoma.
Troopers say the little boy disappeared around 2:40 p.m. Sunday at Hawthorne Swim Beach in Rogers County. The Rogers County Sheriff's Office was notified of the missing child at 4 p.m.
The sheriff's office, Highway Patrol, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other agencies were notified to perform a search and rescue mission for the missing child. At about 6 p.m., firefighters located the boy using Sonar equipment in about 9 feet of water, in the swim beach area.
The patrol says the child was not wearing a personal flotation device. Troopers say the boy is from the Tulsa area but he has not been identified.
