$34,000 check presented to LPS

LAWTON, Okla._Tuesday, a check that will help promote STEM education among local high school students was presented to Lawton Public Schools.

Leadership Lawton-Fort Sill Class XXV presented the district with a check for $34,002.65. Throughout the year, the class has held several fundraising events with the STEM program in mind, which is a program that emphasizes on science, technology, engineering and math.

"We picked the STEM project for Leadership Lawton because we have been influenced by several community leaders that have consistently told us that STEM programs is the way to get ahead for the future of Lawton-Fort Sill, really to develop our young leaders in this community,"  said Andrew Duffy, class spokesman for Leadership Lawton-Fort Sill.

The program's goal is to groom students to become top candidates in job fields that are highly in demand, giving prospective industries more incentive to do business in Lawton.
