Lawton hosts successful Cops N Kids picnic

LAWTON, Okla._Thousands ventured out to Elmer Thomas Park Saturday for the annual Cops N Kids picnic.

Lawton police, OHP., regional police forces and Lawton Fire Marshals were just a few of the agencies in attendance. Lawton Police Chief James Smith said he believes this year will yield a record turnout, and that events like this between law enforcement and the community is important because they both need each other.

"I'm excited about everyone being out here, but more importantly it's a great opportunity for the community and area law enforcement agencies to come together in a positive way," Smith said.

Chief Smith said they planned for 3,000 hot dogs and they ended up running out.

Also included in the festivities today were wrestling, bounce houses and a raffle for bicycles and helmets.
