OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla._Eisenhower High School alum Cyndi Munson was sworn in Wednesday morning as the newest member of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.

She won a special election last week for the vacant seat representing District 85 in northwest Oklahoma City. Munson is the first democrat to hold that seat in more than 50 years, and the first Asian-American ever to be elected to the state House. A crowd of about 100 people packed the Capitol to watch the historic moment.

"Thank you so much. To the people from my home and my district, to the people from my work, educators, teachers and my team who helped me get to this place. You cannot get here alone, and I'm so thankful for all of your support, especially today. To have a room filled, knowing that you literally have my back," Munson said.

Munson is filling a vacancy created when the late representative David Dank, Dank died in April. She will serve the 14 months remaining on Dank's term.
