Spirit runners kicked off the Comanche Nation Fair

LAWTON, Okla._The 24th Annual Comanche Nation Fair kicked off Wednesday in Lawton as the spirit runners carrying the tribe's flag reached the fair's powwow grounds.

Admission to the Comanche Nation Fair is free, and it's open to everyone.  This year's fair features plenty of food, and activities such as a carnival, bull riding, and a parade tomorrow. The fair takes about a year to plan but organizers say it is well worth the wait.

"It's just a good way to give back to our community. It's a good way to celebrate our Comanche heritage through song, dance, visiting, and eating,” Comanche Nation Director of Public Information Jolene Schonchin said.

People from all over the world can be found out the fair. Last year about 500 visitors actually set up camp at the fairgrounds. They hope to get many more this year. There will be a huge powwow session to get everyone in the spirit.

The fair concludes at midnight Sunday.
