International Festival kicked off Friday

LAWTON, Okla._Thousands of people flocked to Elmer Thomas Friday evening for the city's 36th Annual International Festival.

Dance, food, and music brought people in by the droves. Each year the three-day event helps promote greater awareness and appreciation of Lawton’s diverse heritage.

"We came out here Wednesday because we thought it would be nice experience for the kids’ cause it's an international festival, they show different dances and cultures all around here,” Festival goer Erica Lopez Theriot said.

Wednesday's festival closed ahead of schedule due to inclement weather. However, the festival will re-open Saturday from 11-10 p.m. Then again Sunday from 12-5 p.m.

In a naturalization ceremony that kicked off Wednesday's event, 22 foreigners became American citizens.
