LAWTON, Okla._Demolition of Lawton's old City Hall building is scheduled to begin Monday.
The building was originally constructed in the 1930's as Emerson elementary school, before being converted to Lawton City Hall in 1961. In 1986, it was dedicated and re-named in honor of longtime Mayor Wayne Gilley, who served the city for 24 years. It was vacated in 2013, when the city offices were moved to the old central junior high school.
Various groups have looked into using that building, but nothing materialized, because the renovation costs were too high.
