Large gathering at "Open Street" international event

LAWTON, Okla._Downtown Lawton was transformed into a playground during the second edition of “Open Streets Lawton-Fort Sill,” Friday.

"Open Streets" is an international event, with over 90 documented events all over the world. The festival's main objective is to get people moving, through activities like four square, laser tag, and bounce houses things they wouldn't normally do at home.

"The open street events are here to promote a sense of community, active living, and an active lifestyle and to promote revitalization of their communities,” Healthy Living Program Interim Coordinator Ashley Green said.

More than 70 organizations were represented in Friday night's free event. The first one was held in June, attracting over 4,000 people. Organizers say they plan to hold the events in the spring, summer, and fall, skipping the winter season.

They say they want the active festivals to become an event the community looks forward to, much like the city's Annual International Festival and Arts for All.
